The USC Trojans football program is synonymous with winning. The program has grabbed 11 National Titles since being established in 1888. Considering its success and history, it’s safe to say that this Pac-12 power is steeped in tradition. From its mascot Traveler, a white Audalusian horse with a Trojan Warrior rider, to the cardinal red and gold uniforms and storied rivalries, the USC football squad is as well recognized as it is respected. For Trojan fans, there’s nothing more exciting than spending a day with more than 90,000 strong at The Coliseum and the ones that know how to do it right start early and stay late. The USC gameday experience is just that, a memorable time that is not to be missed.
To get all you can out of the USC gameday experience, it’s imperative that you tailgate. Even if you don’t bring your own gear, make sure to join a friend’s tailgate party, not only for a delicious pregame meal, but for the company of other Trojan fans. The only real rule is get there early if you want a good spot. There is limited parking near The Coliseum, but there are plenty of lots nearby with parking fees in the $20-$25 range. The USC Parking Center may be the best value, as fans not only get a spot up to five hours before game time, but also a shuttle to the stadium, all for $20. Feel free to grill some brats and crack open some beers, but just be sure to clean up your area before you head to the game.
Since beer is not sold in inside the Coliseum, fans should check out the Sports Arena, which is located on the West side just a few yards from the gates. The Sports Arena has a wide selection of favorite beers, as well as a full bar, food and a live DJ. Best of all, it is open three hours before kickoff and after the game. If you head over early from the tailgate and still have stomach space, or if you feel like celebrating the Trojans victory for a little longer, the Sports Arena is your destination.
Of course no USC experience is complete without participating in the well-known traditions, including greeting fellow fans with the phrase “Fight on” and displaying the recognizable two-finger “V” for victory salute before and during the game. These traditions will be on display at USC’s home opener on September 1st, as it will host the Hawaii Warriors for a 4:30 p.m. kickoff. With a belly full of grilled tailgate goodies and sweet, golden delicious beer, join fellow Trojan fans in storming the gates of The Coliseum and cheering the Trojans on to victory!
