Uber has become all the rage in many cities and countries around the world. Since it’s relatively new to many places not everyone knows what it is. We decided to put together a guide to everything you need to know about Uber.
What is it?
Uber is an American international transportation network company headquartered in San Francisco, California. It is essentially an extremely convenient way to get a safe ride from point A to point B.
How Does it Work?
Uber requires that you make an account on their website or mobile app. You will have the option to link your credit/debit card, PayPal account, Google Wallet, or Apple Pay account to have immediate access to any drivers in your area at all times. Any payment option is secure through Uber, so you won’t have to worry about your accounts. After you create an account you’ll be able to easily see the vehicles in your area, and set up your “pickup location”.
In the cities participating with Uber, you will have a driver on its way to you in under 15 seconds. Arrival time varies depending on how many drivers are in the area, and/or if there are big events or traffic around your pickup location. You can conveniently “split your fare” with one or multiple people in your party if they have an Uber account as well.
Before scheduling a ride, you have the option to see the fare and/or get a “fare estimate” to your location.
Additionally to save time, it is not required to type in a destination, you will be able to either direct your driver or tell them your desired destination upon their arrival. Uber is essentially the quickest and safest way to earn transportation on the market today.
Where is it Located?
Uber is located in 58 countries and most U.S. cities. More specifically, cars are available in North America, Central and South America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the Asian Pacific. Click this link to see all cities that Uber operates from.
Who is Driving Me?
All Uber drivers must go through a rigorous background check. This three-step screening includes county, federal, and multi-state checks that go back 7 years, the maximum allowable by the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Uber guarantees a safe ride and includes prospective and regular checks of drivers’ motor vehicle records to continue secure rides. Unlike the taxi industry, Uber’s background check processes are consistent across the United States and are often more rigorous than what is required to become a taxi driver.
What Kind of Car Will Pick Me Up?
Uber has four options to choose from according to vehicle size and grandeur. UberX is their most commonly used service typically with a maximum size of 4 people. UberXL is typically an SUV size vehicle with an allowance of 6 people. UberSELECT is a more recent additional introducing more stylish, sleek rides at an affordable price. The last option, UberBlack, is also a more recent addition that provides a luxury, first-class ride of upgraded quality with the choice of newer model Black Cars and SUVs.
